The support and training that Eden Welfare provides for external bodies and for community events / individuals within the scene, differs largely. There is a certain expectation of knowledge regarding Polyamory, Kink and Sex within the community we reside in, the same as in many communities that have their own familiarity and lore regarding other topics. Partnering and educating staff in Queer and Kink spaces results in maximizing potential support supplied, following pathways towards long term care and caring for those those who are at risk of being left behind.
Opening discussions with events that are beginning to run allows us to supply resources for patrons related to chemsex, Intimate Partner Violence and therapy services. The support we can supply to these spaces is limited when it is a short term, taster course. By training the full team and having long term contact with the Safeguarding Team/Organisers' means we can supply a developed Scheme for individuals involved in harm. Having a referral system and clear routes is absolutely vital in order to minimise the risk of re-offending, re-traumatisation of victims and guilt spirals for the staff who may have been involved. To introduce a complex scheme for at risk individuals is only possible if the response and repair is done skillfully and the standard of which is maintained.
Opening discussions with events that are beginning to run, or already running. Offering free training tasters for event runners and supplying resources that they can put patrons in contact with for chemsex, domestic violence and therapy services.
The Safeguarding Training will go over general and kink safety knowledge that Safeguarders need to be aware of when working within these environments. They will be shown how to best practice harm reduction techniques practically within event settings with attendees, how to manage GDPR, and self care after an event.
Safeguarding Management is for the event itself and requires staff to be trained in line with Eden’s protocol and knowledge expectations. This will include assessing the risk assessments provided by staff, delegating roles and creating schedules.
Eden is available throughout the evening to specifically is to manage any staff, along with high risk incidents with potentially either a member of security from the venue or one of the Organizers. Any referrals made to the Harm and Repair Scheme (HRS) will be headlined by Eden and will include testimony from involved Safeguarders’ and then approved by an Organiser.
The wage disparity within the UK reflects the current socioeconomic climate, while is disproportionally impacting those of us from minority groups.
There's a large classist issue within the Kink scene, with insistence on expensive materials such as latex to be allowed entry into clubs, or a general distaste for those who buy toys second hand/through cheaper avenues. A large number of people stay away from clubs due to the concern that they will end up being judged for what they have, or don't have.
Personally, I have seen a number of individuals within the Queer scene turn to drugs as a cheaper alternative to extortionate prices of drinks in bars.
Both scenes we're looking to support are ones that are hit with financial inequality and we're extremely hesitant to further this by putting a price tag on what should be generalised training. We are an independently ran business that looks to gain income by teaching government bodies like police, emergency carers and social workers in the long term - but currently need to teach our own before we can branch out into civil services.
If you are running a small business or have lower income, please get in contact us as we are here to educate and help who we can, not just those who make large profits.
